Combined Call for Proposals for Education Innovation

This page describes the combined Call for Proposals for education innovation funds available to TU/e educators. The funds originate from TU/e’s DRIVE education innovation program and EuroTeQ.

Introduction

In its Vision on Education, TU/e states the mission to (1) educate responsible engineers of the future who are prepared to take on important societal, technical and scientific challenges, and (2) offer high-quality education that is authentic, flexible and can be adapted and improved to meet the challenges of a quickly changing world. To support educators at TU/e to innovate their education towards the realisation of this mission, there are two funds available to acquire resources for innovating education. All educators at TU/e are invited to respond to this call for proposals.

In the following sections, the DRIVE and EuroTeQ funds, including their focus and available budget, are introduced. In preparing a proposal, educators can select one of the funds and write a proposal specifically for that fund. It is also possible to submit a proposal to both funds if co-funding would be fitting considering the content of the proposal. If you are unsure which fund(s) would be most suitable for the envisioned innovation of education, please contact calls.educationinnovation@tue.nl for help.

All proposals have to be submitted to calls.educationinnovation@tue.nl. From there, proposals will be forwarded to the applicable fund(s) for review. More information on the review procedures per fund are available below.

In case of any questions regarding this Call for Proposals, please contact calls.educationinnovation@tue.nl. If your question concerns one of the funds specifically, please contact the following persons:

DRIVE program         Suzanne Groothuijsen – s.e.a.groothuijsen@tue.nl or schedule a meeting

EuroTeQ                    Meagin van der Westhuizen – m.v.d.westhuizen@tue.nl or schedule a meeting

Important dates

Important: EuroTeQ funding should be spend before April 2028!

(Pre-)proposals should be submitted before the deadlines to be reviewed within the established timeframe (see above). Submissions of full proposals after the deadline will be considered in a next call period.

Templates for (pre)proposals

Two templates are available to support applicants with the drafting of proposals: a template for pre-proposals and a template for full proposals. Use of the templates is mandatory for applications to the DRIVE and EuroTeQ.

Submission of a pre-proposal is highly recommended when applying for funding from one fund, but not mandatory. Based on the review of the pre-proposals, applicants receive feedback and an (non-binding) advice on the submission of a full proposal.

Submission of a pre-proposal is mandatory when applying for co-funding from multiple funds. This is required to allow for sufficient time to coordinate the review procedure between the funds.

If you did not submit a pre-proposal but plan to submit a full proposal, it is highly recommended to schedule a meeting to discuss your plans with the applicable fund representative(s). The main purpose of this meeting is to check the match between your plans and the call for proposals for the fund(s). Use the link below to schedule a meeting

Other important information

It is important that all proposals comply with applicable rules and regulations concerning privacy, AI and learning analytics. Please read the AI and Privacy checklist, EU AI Act guidelines, and Code of Practice Learning Analytics carefully and include relevant information on these topics in your proposal, if applicable.

Education innovation pilots at TU/e should align with the SURF Public Values concerning autonomy, justice and humanity. Check out the SURF Public Values Compass to learn what this entails. Carefully consider adherence to these public values in your plans to innovate education.

The DRIVE program (2025-2030) aims to enhance the quality of education with digitalization. This call for proposals is aimed at realizing TU/e’s Vision on Education towards (1) learning in a flexible hybrid system to facilitate diverse learning paths, (2) an authentic, integrative, and activating educational concept: Challenge Based Learning, and (3) self-directed learning that acknowledges personal development and professional identity.

Based on the Vision on Education, results of the BOOST! program and (technological) developments in higher education and the world, the DRIVE program focuses on five core topics:

  1. AI in education: Education for, with and despite AI
  2. E-assessment: Innovative assessment options using technology. Including assessment of competence and skill development, and a focus on challenge-based learning, collaborative learning and (peer)feedback.
  3. Learning Analytics: Use of data with the purpose of understanding and optimizing learning and teaching
  4. Flexibilization: Accessibility of educational resources for students and teachers beyond the course level, and opportunities for flexible learning and learning pathways
  5. Virtualization: Learning and teaching of knowledge and/or skills that are not possible with current (on-campus) resources. Including XR, VR, innovative lab education and gamification.

DRIVE Guidelines for proposals

DRIVE welcomes proposals from all educators at the TU/e. Proposals should contribute towards realizing TU/e's vision on education, and fit with at least one of the core topics of the DRIVE program. An important aspect for any DRIVE pilot is potential for upscaling beyond the context of the pilot.

The DRIVE review document describes the review procedure and criteria.

In this fourth call for proposals for the DRIVE program, a total amount of € 1.000.000,- is available. Details regarding funding guidelines are available in the DRIVE review document. The requested budget will be assessed on fit with the proposed education innovation and anticipated impact on education, including potential for scaling up.

The EuroTeQ Engineering University Alliances aims at shaping the future of European Engineering. The focus is to instill in students and lifelong learners the ability to think and act responsibly and be ready to lead a competitive and sustainable Europe into the future. EuroTeQ offerings are directed towards future technological skills as well as intercultural and multilingual competences and an entrepreneurial mindset.

The EuroTeQ innovation fund aims to stimulate teachers to collaborate with EuroTeQ partners, to redesign or design courses and content that is appealing to EuroTeQ learners while supporting TU/e’s Vision on Education, with a specific focus on learning in a flexible hybrid system to facilitate diverse learning paths, self-directed learning that acknowledges personal development and professional identity, fostering responsible engineers and developing the international classroom.

We welcome proposals focused on Education for EuroTeQ students (BSc, MSc or PhD) .

Proposals could aim to:

  • Develop a new (joint) course with EuroTeQ partners (Examples of formats could be a BIP-Blended Intensive Program, COIL or MOOC)
  • Redesign an existing course to be suitable for EuroTeQ online or blended learners (Examples Adding MOOCS to existing courses, creating virtual labs to be used instead of hardware or a online assessment method or adding a on campus week-BIP)

EuroTeQ Guidelines for proposals

The EuroTeQ review document describes the review procedure and criteria. Pilots should have potential for scaling up beyond the context of the pilot (see review document).

Further information about BIPs can be found here.

In this call for proposals for EuroTeQ a total amount of €200 000 is available. Details regarding funding guidelines are available in the EuroTeQ review document. The requested budget will be assessed based on the proposed education innovation and anticipated impact on education, including potential for scaling up.

We invite project proposals that contribute to the above and where the development phase of the proposal will be finalized by April 2028 (Implementation could be the year thereafter).
